HISTORY
The U.S. Mint has produced 5-cent coins since its inception in 1792. Originally struck in silver and referred to as "half-dimes," the denomination was not struck in nickel until 1866. This vintage 4-coin set features one of every major type and composition of circulating U.S. nickel issued during the 20th century. The coins in this collection were hand-selected by professional numismatists after screening thousands of coins for quality and eye-appeal. Included is a Liberty Head nickel (1883-1913), Buffalo nickel (1913-1938), and two Jefferson nickels, one struck in the standard copper-nickel alloy (1938-1941 and 1946-present), and one World War II emergency issue struck in a silver alloy (1942-1945).
