The 1986 Statue of Liberty Commemorative Silver Dollar was issued to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Statue of Liberty's dedication. The genuine commemorative coin was issued by the United States Mint and is composed of 90% silver. The silver dollar was minted in San Francisco and Philadelphia. The obverse was designed by John Mercanti and features the Statue of Liberty with Ellis Island in the background. The obverse was designed by John Mercanti and Matthew Peloso features a lit torch and the famous words “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free", the motto “E Pluribus Unum", and the denomination “One Dollar".
