Product Details
A Mercury Dime Coin featuring the Winged Liberty, rests securely in a smooth round bezel and hangs from a cable style 18 inch chain with a 3 inch extender and a lobster claw clasp. A 16 inch cable style chain with angel wings completes the double strand set. The goldtone chain is composed of a jeweler's base metal and measures 1.5 mm in width. The Silver Mercury Dime was minted from 1916 to 1945. Legend states, Adolf Weinman a sculptor captured the beauty of his tenant, Elsie Stevens while she sat for a portrait bust. Weinman was then selected by the US Mint to design the dime in 1916. It is said he used the bust of Stevens as his inspiration when designing Liberty for the obverse of the new dime. One look at the portrait of Stevens and one can see the stunning similarities in the profiles. Weinman added the winged cap to enhance the strength of Lady Liberty in thought. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity and comes in a white jewelry box. Mint marks and years will vary.
